KUNAR: International Women’s Day Celebrations at DoWA

International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate progress, reflect on current challenges and consider future steps to improve all aspects of women’s lives,” Message of Husan Bano Ghazanfar, Minister of Woman Affairs (MoWA), to a group of 115 Afghan women who gathered at at the Women Affairs Directorate from small villages and nearby districts. “Afghan women met with a lot hard challenges in the past ten years, and we should encourage women to get an education and give them jobs in Government administrations.” Following Nasima Women affairs Director's speech, Ms.Towraj, a female member of Kunar’s Provincial Council asked the DoWA to expand public awareness programs, seminars, and workshops for women in the districts. Adding that “development never comes without security,” Ms. Towraj requested the police to provide better security in outlying areas of Kunar. Attending celebrations were Provincial Governor Sayed Fazlullah Wahidi and Abdul Matin, head of Anti Terrorism of Kunar’s Police Department. “Society is made up of men and women – we should work shoulder to shoulder for the prosperity of our beloved homeland Afghanistan,” said Mr. Matin. Governor Wahidi reiterated government policy, which requires ministries to include female workers in each office. He added, “We accept democracy, in a way that it’s supported by Islam.”
